GROWN EVIDENCE
RECORD + HYPOTHESIS2024 · WOOL ISOTOPE TRIAL
A methane-linked isotope trace appeared in wool. Can fiber outlast breath?
In a 20-week controlled CSIRO trial, different methane-suppressing treatments were associated with different carbon-isotope signals in wool. The result still awaits larger-scale validation.

On July 6, 2026, Australia’s national science agency, CSIRO, described a trial asking whether carbon-isotope signals preserved in wool could reveal differences in methane emissions from sheep. The researchers did not find methane trapped in fleece. They examined differences in carbon-isotope ratios incorporated into the fiber as it grew.
